Plenary Speakers Announced

The National Workforce Association is pleased to announce the following keynote Speakers.

Monday Afternoon Plenary

Joshua Cooper Ramo as our featured plenary speaker on Monday afternoon, December 7. Ramo's story Jobless in America: Is Double-Digit Unemployment Here to Stay? was TIME magazine's cover story on September 11, 2009. He is also the author of The Age of The Unthinkable: Why the New World Disorder Constantly Surprises Us and What We Can Do About It. In this newly released publication, Ramo argues that we are now in the midst of unprecedented change--- instead of relying on our traditional models and institutions of the past, we must adapt to these changes with innovative solutions and creative problem solving ideas to face the global challenges ahead. Ramo's thoughts are especially pertinent as we consider the future of the public workforce system and prepare together to provide guidance to policy makers and the administration.

Tuesday Morning Plenary

We are equally pleased to announce that Neal Peirce, Chairman, The Citistates Group, will be our speaker at the Tuesday morning plenary breakfast. Neal Peirce is a pulse-taker of change in how America governs itself. His column has repeatedly broken fresh ground in identifying vital new trends in state and local governments and the dynamics of federal/state/local relations. Time magazine called Peirce "the only national chronicler of grass-roots America." His weekly column, syndicated through The Washington Post Writers Group since 1978, appears in over 50 newspapers.

NWA Workforce Development Awards for Excellence
After extensive deliberation the Conference Committee made the decision to take a year off from the presentation of Awards in conjunction with the NWA Annual Legislative Leadership Forum. It seemed to us that this year it is important that we recognize ALL the outstanding efforts underway in our system ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú from one-stop development to WIB collaboration and innovative business partnerships ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú the response of our system during this economic crisis, coupled with the wise investments of the ARRA resources lead by the Workforce Boards, in order to get America back to work are good cause for celebration themselves.

It is the Conference Committee?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s recommendation that the presentation of awards be revisited in the future and possibly be re-established with categories that fit the focus of our current collective system efforts or the goals of reauthorized legislation. We appreciate your interest in the NWA Awards and your support of the Workforce Investment system at the national level
